Our (Non-Fiction) Story

What is writing all about? "You simply sit down at the typewriter, open your veins, and bleed," said the journalist, Red Smith.

So you bleed gallons and pour your heart out and stay up nights when all the "normal" people—safely tucked into bed—are busy dreaming about really boring shit. 

 

But that's okay. You like your space. You like being in your world of characters, who sometimes seem so real, when you're done with a story they are like old friends—old friends you don't want to leave. Thank the Muse for sequels, trilogies, and series.

 

You want to write—love to write—and the nature of this compulsion is persistent and illogical. It doesn’t go away because you tell it to. It may hide for a bit, but it lurks and skulks around and presses buttons until you pay attention.

Not many people understand this. Writing is a nebulous endeavor to "outsiders"—a creative art that won't yield tangible results for a long time. But oh, how fun that time is (aside from the opening a vein and bleeding bit).

Shop for Writers was born out of the idea that writers are not your normal breed of human. Clever, heads exploding with unwritten stories, creators of beauty, horror, fantasy…writers cannot escape the siren call of the Muse.

We are writers and we dig the writer's mindset. Since the writing life is so rarely understood, we think it's time to tell it like it is.
